That house will never love you back

Best real estate advice ever. "Don't fall in love with a house" Thanks Megan. I'd like to think it's because the house will never hold me in the morning afterwards or call me after our tender moment. Don't even get me started on the diseases, get the pipes checked or you'll feel the burn. Fickle lovers that they are.

Anyway, the house(s) that we were bidding on Tuesday and Wednesday were bought by someone who came in $75 000 more than asking right out of the gate on Tuesday and $50 000 on Wednesday. The dude on Tuesday bought the house for $427, 501. I shit you not. It's the fiscal equivalent of flipping us the bird.

Am exhausted by the idea that what seems to be an impossible amount of money to us isn't even on the radar for a lot of folks. So depressing. Thank god I wasn't in love with the houses...just a bit of lust.

Speaking of easy on the eyes; J and Fenner at Allan Gardens - does that greenery feel good on the eyes or what.

Lovely green garden picture. Especially on a blah February day. Move out of the big smoke! I know sopmeone who moved to my much smaller town and got a better house for 1/4 of the price of her place up there...

Real estate is just one of the toughest experiences all round. I know it sounds like a load of hooey, but try to remember that all things happen for a reason and you will end up with the house that is just right for you.

In the meantime, go egg the "$75000 over" guy's house when he moves in. Good stress relief. :)

Blah.. that sucks. But it'll come together at some point. When do we get to hang?

The bidding war process really is nasty, and leaves you feeling like Every Other Person In The Freakin City must have more money than you. They don't though, they've just been seduced by a broker into a much higher debt load. I was astounded at how much a bank was willing to let us mortgage, and absolutely not prepared to go that far.

Thank you for the green and the wee girl. Great combination.

Hi Jen. Don't get discouraged. I bid on and lost around fifteen houses all in Leslieville before I won mine (where I was one of nine bids). I kept getting outbid by couples who could qualify for bigger mortgages than me, a single gal. But after I finally got my house all of those other ones (incl. one that I lost out on for a measly $1,000) are a distant memory and I can't even imagine living anywhere else. Stay strong, you'll find your perfect house.

Keep this as your mantra my friend:
I will not be house poor...
I will not be house poor...

A dietary life of kd and hot dogs is not pretty. And not good for the wee one.

A question though...what keeps you in the city?

Hey Jen,

This'll cheer you up: just follow the "don'ts" to win the Worst Mom contest!

Dos and don'ts with babies!

PS. I miss Fenner. No you so much, but the wee bairn. :P

That is excellent advice. And after buying a year ago I totally concur.

It's a huge roller coaster eh? it'll work out.

That being said, do think about stretching yourself a bit if the right place comes along. We went about 20k over our psychological limit for our house and it was worth it. It works out to about $50 bucks more a month (I put my thumb over the total owing part of my mortgage). It helped us look at places we thought were unaffordable.

And we got our places for $16,218 less than asking. In Riverdale!

Hey Jen,

You can buy my house cheap! I don't want it anymore.

Hang in there.

jjWhat they said. It will work out. We couldn't bid over (being not sallaried and therefore totally losers according to the banks) and we just had to wait till the dream house was the one no one wanted...which it was. Took a long time. Remember how overdue Fenner was? And how worth it she was? xo

ps I don't know where that jj came from. But it kind of works...
